I have been singing seriously for 12 years and have had professional lessons for 6 years. I recently graduated from Royal Holloway College with a music degree where I studied voice with Graham Titus. I have sung regularly for Thanet Seventy Chamber Choir, Thanet Festival Choir, Canterbury Choral Society, Royal Holloway Chamber Choir and Royal Holloway Founder’s Choir as both a chorus member and soloist, I have also obtained a distinction in Grade 8 voice from ABRSM under the tutelage of Clifford Lister and have privately studied rock, pop and metal styles of singing. I am currently exploring the world of vocal improvisation and regularly make my own recordings.

I believe in singing for the pure enjoyment of it, and believe that anyone can sing if they are willing to put in the time and effort required to make progress. I don’t believe learning to sing should be about comparing yourself with your singing heroes, there is only one you and that means you have a chance to make a totally unique contribution to the world of singing. In my lessons, I would start by getting to know your voice, its unique qualities and try and get a good idea of how you best learn new information. I know from experience that all pupils think differently and I think it is very important to adjust the style of the lesson to fit each particular pupil.

Good technique and common sense lies at the bottom of all singing, no matter what the style. In my lessons I would aim to give the pupil a thorough grounding in good singing technique, as well as encouraging the pupil to learn how to criticise their own performance in order to improve it. I would cover topics such as vocal range, breathing, resonance, support, relaxation and musicality, In addition to these, I would also encourage the pupil to challenge any negative preconceptions they might have about their singing ability which might be holding them back. Singing is not just a physical activity but involves the mind and the emotions; A good singer has awareness of and control over all of these things.

During my lessons, I will accompany the pupil on the piano or keyboard as appropriate as well as occasionally using backing tracks and recording equipment to enable to the pupil to hear what they sound like (Don’t worry, I still find the sound of my voice embarrassing too!).

I would be very willing to discuss block booking with the pupil if they are interested.

I am in the process of obtaining an enhanced CRB certificate as well as public liability insurance.
