 Genevieve Arnold - Barbican, London, EC2Y 8NJ

Genevieve was born to Irish parents in South London in 1982 and moved to Suffolk soon after. Along with her sister, Genevieve has always loved music and drama and they joined The Voice Squad vocal ensemble based in Bury St Edmunds. They performed throughout the country and appeared at the Queen Elizabeth and Albert Halls.

Genevieve went onto study classical singing at The Royal Academy of Music and sang solos at The Academy of St Martins in the Field and St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York before diversifying to perform a broader repertoire.  Genevieve and her sister then formed a duo called NEEVE that mainly played their own compositions but also covered of soul/jazz classics. They played at many London venues such as The Spice of Life and The Hope and Anchor.

Genevieve then enrolled for the Jazz Foundation Course at Trinity College of Music which confirmed Jazz as her chosen path, and now at the age of 24, Genevieve has just graduated with a 2.1 from  Middlesex University completing a B.A. Hons in Jazz.

Genevieve's teachers at Middlesex include Iain Mackenzie and Nikki Isles and last year, formed a quartet which is influenced amongst others by Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Krall, and Sara Vaughan. Genevieve has experience of performing at Jazz Clubs, Jazz Festivals, restaurants and celebrations such as weddings and anniversaries.

Genevieve is currently concentrating on pop music in a group called Shelia Mqueen with her sister and are in the process of  writing and working with other writers. To record an ep later on in the year.

Genevieve is delighted to have become an Associate at Vocaltutor.

'As a practicing performer myself, I am fully aware of the great variety of singers needs. Students may be experienced and in need of an experienced ear for a few lessons before an audition or performance, while others may be starting out and in need of real understanding of vocal technique, and its physical demands. I take on board students strengths and weakness and develop them, offering a well connected range and technique. I use several techniques when teaching, including speech level technique, a natural way of training voices to allow singers, to perform freely, and clearly throughout their range, with a balanced tone, with no gaps or breaks.

I like to use the piano within lessons, to aid teaching including exercises incorporating melody, harmony, and the rhythm of the piece.

Practice is of course key to learning and I require students to spend time singing their scales, breathing exercises, etc at home.'

CRB certificate attained.
