 Hannah Northedge - Lewisham, SE13 7TS

Hannah Northedge who grew up in Leicester and Australia began singing professionally 17 years ago. She was encouraged by her mother also a professional singer. She trained classically before discovering that her voice was incredibly suited to jazz and country rock. She has studied under the expert tutelage of Kim Chandler, Dane Chalfin, Mary Hammond (The Royal Academy of Music), Evelyn Dowling (Dublin), Dinah Harris and international jazz singer Tina May. The Hannah Northedge Jazz Band is her own ensemble that she fronts for international performances.

She is currently recording an album of jazz standards and self penned country rock originals for release in 2011 and has had her songs played on BBC Radio and Jazz FM.

She holds residencies across London and is a regular performer at the 606 Jazz Club. She has also performed at the Barbican Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Avery Fisher Hall in New York, BAFTA Academy and most of the major London hotels including Park Lane, Hilton, Savoy.

Hannah also fronts her own country / rockabilly band Northy and The Night Porters.

She is in great demand to sing with other ensembles and was the female vocalist with The Rat Pack Trio and Orchestra from 2006 – 2008 and performed to sell out audiences at theatres across the UK. She has also fronted swing band Rockin' in Rhythm, Kind of Jazz function band, The Piccadilly Dance Orchestra, 78rpm and The Rob James Orchestra. She works with former BBC Big Band leader, composer and pianist Ronnie Smith, internationally renowned pianist and composer Simon Wallace. She also learnt her craft by singing with pop function bands on cruise ships.

Hannah plays piano, rhythm guitar and is learning bass guitar which she loves!

  • Session fixing her own choir The Hannah Northedge Singers for composer Roque Banos (The Machinist, Sexy Beast) for major feature film The Oxford Murders starring Elijah Wood and John Hurt. She appeared in the film and recorded the soundtrack at Abbey Road Studios in 2007.

  • Performing on stage with late jazz pianist and legend Dave Brubeck.

  • Performing with The Les Paul Trio in New York City.

  • Singing for Her Majesty the Queen, Prince Phillip and former Prime Minister Tony Blair at Westminster Methodist Central Hall, London.

  • Session singing Beethoven’s 9th “Choral” Symphony at Sir George Martin’s Air Studios for executive producer Ernst Goldschmidt for the soundtrack to “Copying Beethoven” starring Ed Harris.

  • Top line vocals for Jackie Chambers lead guitarist of rock group Girlschool.

  • Vocal coach and musical mentor to pop group Holah for producer John Hudson (Tina Turner, Radiohead, Coldplay, Sugababes) at Mayfair Studios, London.

  • London Symphony Chorus for Sir Colin Davis, Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Richard Hickox.

  • She has many lead acting roles under her belt notably as Hitler’s secretary Traudl Junge for series Days That Shook the World for BBC 2, BBC 4 and The History Channel.

Hannah has been teaching singing for over 15 years privately, in schools, night classes and for groups. Singers of all abilities are welcome, especially very nervous students. Tuition in all musical genres offered, plus assistance with music theory and harmony. A recording studio package is also offered.

TEACHING STUDIO LOCATION

Hannah teaches singing from the studio room in her residence in Lewisham, London SE13 7TS .

The studio 10 minutes walk from Lewisham mainline and DLR stations and 5 minutes walk from St Johns mainline station. Frequent trains run from London Bridge, Charing Cross, Cannon Street and Waterloo East. Parking on Hannah’s road is easy with no permits required.

STUDIO FEATURES

Hannah’s studio is a comfortable, vibrant and secure basement room with a sofa and chairs, music stand, microphone, microphone stand and small amp.

Noise leakage from outside is very low due to position in building.

Hannah can play the piano or backing tracks through wall mounted speakers to accompany students.

A printer and scanner are available for creating instant hand out sheets and there is access to internet.

LESSON AVAILABILITY

Monday - Friday: 9am - 9pm (last lesson at 8pm).

Saturday and Sunday are often available from 10am - 4pm.

LESSON DURATION

Lessons are for 1 hour.

Continuous sessions of 90 minutes, 2 hours or longer (preparation for impending exams and auditions, etc) can be arranged.

GROUP LESSONS

Joint lessons with 2 - 5 people can be arranged for a special rate.

This option is very suitable for established pop groups, siblings or singers who are not yet confident enough to sing alone.

EXAM OPTIONS

Hannah can enter students in for graded exams for The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), Trinity (TCM) and Trinity Rock School and London College of Music (LCM).
