Maighread is a professional singer, vocal coach and consultant, who has been teaching singing to individuals, groups, theatre companies and school and college students for over 25 years. As well as working as a freelance vocal tutor, she is also Head of Music and Performing Arts at a large Birmingham college, specialising in voice and performance.

Already established as a singer of Irish traditional folk music, Maighread studied Drama and English at Manchester University. After graduating, Maighread completed a postgraduate diploma in Voice and Opera at Birmingham School of Music (now Birmingham Conservatoire) studying with Keith Darlington. She began a career as a recital artist specialising in Mozart, Rossini and Handel performing in venues across the UK and Ireland.

She also began appearing as a guest artist with local Midlands Jazz ensembles and as a session recording artist.

Maighread has worked as a vocal consultant with theatre companies, recording companies and individual artists. Her students are mostly established professionals or emerging young artists from wide variety of musical genres from rock to reggae and classical to country

Maighread has a full, enhanced CRB and a level 2 professional qualification in Safeguarding

The main musical genres that I’m versed in are retro Jazz, Soul & contemporary Reggae but my vocal range was limited, a little rusty and not as colourful or as dynamic as I’d like.
