Beryl Van Niekerk - Lemington, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Beryl has studied voice with several well respected voice teachers, including Eve Boswell; the acclaimed 1950's singing star who achieved chart success with the hits 'Sugar Bush' and 'Pickin' a Chicken.' Eve also appeared in several shows for television; including 'Hit Parade', 'Commonwealth Cavalcade' and 'Off the Record'.

Beryl performed on the professional circuit in the 90's, where she fronted various bands (lead vocalist). One of her original compositions was chosen for selection on a compilation album from more than 400 entries in a competition hosted by Radio 5 and EMI (90's).

Prior to moving up to the North East she colloborated with various musicians in London working on original music (Nigel Grierson, 4AD Records, designed album cover for 80's band Yazoo). She was approached by D. Donnelly (brother of Declan Donnelly i.e. Ant & Dec) to facilitate a children's songwriting album (YMT, voluntary worker). The vocals were performed by Clare Buckfield (2 Point 4 Children).

Beryl is currently completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Education. She has a BA (Hons) Music; and an HND in Music Production, the City & Guilds Delivering Learning and the IMW (Barbican, London) Certificate in Music Technology.
